  • Develop the Object Storage provider

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OpenEverest already manages databases on Kubernetes through its provider framework. This project extends that framework to object storage. The gap is straightforward: users run OpenEverest on-premise or at the edge and need S3-compatible storage alongside their databases. Today they deploy MinIO or SeaweedFS manually, outside of OpenEverest, with no integration. This project fixes that by making object storage a first-class resource. The mentee will implement an object storage provider within OpenEverest's existing v2 provider architecture. Starting with MinIO or SeaweedFS (or you name it), the provider will handle cluster lifecycle - deploy, scale, upgrade, configure replication and access policies—through the same UI, CLI, and API that users already use for databases. Buckets and users will be manageable from the OpenEverest dashboard, and object storage clusters will be usable as backup targets for managed databases. The framework is already in place. The work is building the provider. Expected Outcomes: • MinIO or SeaweedFS providers for OpenEverest v2 • Lifecycle management: deploy, configure, scale, upgrade • Bucket and user management through OpenEverest UI/CLI/API • Backup target integration with database clusters • Tests and documentation

  • Performance Testing Plugin

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OpenEverest v2 already ships with a generic plugin framework that provides extension points across the UI, CLI, and API. This project is about building a performance-testing plugin on top of that existing infrastructure. The use case is simple: users deploy databases through OpenEverest and want to know if those databases actually perform as expected. Right now that means manually installing sysbench or pgbench, figuring out connection strings, and wrestling with Kubernetes networking. With this plugin, a user picks a database from the OpenEverest dashboard, chooses a workload profile, hits run, and sees throughput and latency results right in the UI. The same operation is also available from the CLI for CI/CD integration. The mentee will build the plugin end-to-end: integrating benchmark runners as ephemeral Kubernetes Jobs, wiring results into OpenEverest's existing UI panels and CLI commands, and keeping historical runs so users can spot regressions. Start with PostgreSQL and MySQL via sysbench/pgbench, and MongoDB via YCSB. Expected Outcomes: • Working performance-testing plugin using OpenEverest's generic plugin interfaces • Support for sysbench (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and YCSB (MongoDB) as initial engines • UI panel for configuring tests and viewing results • CLI commands for running tests and retrieving results • Historical results storage and comparison across runs • Tests and documentation

  • Plugin Developer Playground: Interactive UI Schema Editor with Live Preview

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OpenEverest is an open-source cloud-native database platform that helps developers deploy and manage PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and other databases on Kubernetes. In V2 it uses a plugin architecture where database providers define their UI through declarative YAML schemas (UISchema in Provider CRD). Currently, plugin developers have no integrated tool for developing and testing these schemas — the only way to see the rendered result is to deploy a full Provider CRD into a running Kubernetes cluster, making the development cycle slow and error-prone. This project aims to build a Plugin Developer Playground — a page inside OpenEverest where plugin developers can write UISchema YAML, see the rendered form in real time, validate the schema structure, inspect the post-processed API payload, and save/share schemas, all without deploying to a cluster. The mentee must solve the CSP compatibility problem by either choosing a CSP-compliant code editor or proposing an isolation architecture (e.g., sandboxed iframe) that keeps the main application's strict security posture intact.

  • Transform everestctl into a Powerful Database Management CLI

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OpenEverest is an open-source cloud-native database platform that helps developers deploy and manage PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and other databases on Kubernetes. Currently, everestctl serves primarily as an installation tool for deploying and deleting OpenEverest itself. However, users increasingly need a powerful command-line interface to manage their databases, clusters, and integrations directly from the terminal. This project aims to transform everestctl from a basic deployment tool into a comprehensive CLI for managing OpenEverest resources. The mentee will design and implement a modern, user-friendly CLI experience that allows users to provision databases, manage Kubernetes clusters, interact with OpenEverest plugins, and automate database operations — all without leaving their terminal. The project will involve working with Go, Kubernetes APIs, OpenEverest's plugin architecture, and modern CLI frameworks like Cobra.
