  cilium.io could benefit from SEO pillar pages that capture higher level problems that people will search for. Each page should deep dive into a comprehensive overview of the topic and contain high quality architectural images and diagrams that will also be discovered in search. These pages will capture high-intent search traffic and guide users from "Curious" to "Installed."

  Improve how cilium.io content is discovered, ranked, and reused by search engines and AI tools. This includes enhancing technical SEO, optimizing for answer engines like Google SGE and Perplexity (AEO), and structuring content to be easily cited and used by large language models (AIO). The mentee will perform audits, recommend improvements, and implement changes across meta tags, structured data, documentation formatting, and content strategy.

  On the Cilium homepage, we want to document technical outcomes from using Cilium. Think of these technical outcomes as aggregating some of cilium features to achieve a high level technical goal. These are the current ones we have in mind: Zero Trust Networking, Network Automation, Distributed Firewalling, Cost and Carbon Savings, Multi-cloud Connectivity.

• Governance Documentation

  This project will focus on governance documentation for the Cilium project with two key parts. First, the governenace documentation should be moved out of the main docs and into the community repo. Second, we need to do an inventory of all of the repos under the project and come up with a lifecycle for them.

• Implement a Kubernetes operator to maintain pod IP to pod metadata mapping

  Tetragon currently depends on Cilium to look up pod information by their IP addresses. The goal of this project is to remove this Cilium dependency by implementing a Kubernetes operator that provides this information. The idea is for this operator to maintain a new custom resource that provide a mapping from IPs to the small subset of pod information that Tetragon needs.
