End-to-End Agentic Workflow for Serverless Functions
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Knative Functions ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes its toolchain to AI agents. This project builds on that foundation: deepening the MCP server to cover initial environment setup and CI/CD integration, and authoring a companion skill that walks agents through the full lifecycle of a Function. Together these enable end-to-end agentic usage of Serverless Functions; from initial scaffolding through deployment with CI/CD.
- Familiarity with the Go programming language (ideal) or Python (secondarily).
- Experience with AI/ML agents and interest in programmatic LLM integrations.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes
- Serverless
- GitOps
- CI/CD systems a plus.

Enhancing the Knative Educational Game with Advanced EDA Patterns and Web Deployment
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Knative provides a powerful event-driven platform, but learning its concepts, especially brokers and EDA patterns, can be challenging for beginners. The Knative Educational Game aims to simplify this learning curve through interactive gameplay that visually and conceptually demonstrates Knative components and event-driven patterns. An overview of the project was presented at the KubeCon NA 2024, and several technical sketches, gameplay patterns, and level designs were created and implemented during the LFX Mentorship of Spring 2025. This project serves as the continuation of that work and is divided into two main parts: The first part focuses on expanding and enhancing the game by implementing existing level designs, introducing advanced EDA patterns (like Outbox and DataRef patterns), designing assets as needed, and improving interactivity. The second part focuses on deploying the game to the web, making it easily accessible for learners to try and share.

Enhancing the Knative func CLI Experience
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Knative Functions enables you to easily create, build, and deploy stateless, event-driven functions as Knative Services by using the func CLI. With this LFX project, we aim to conduct a comprehensive UX evaluation of the func CLI. The focus will be on identifying usability issues, understanding developer workflows, and gathering structured feedback on CLI interactions. The findings will help improve the CLI's intuitiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction.
- Experience with command-line interfaces
- familiarity with UX evaluation/research methodologies
- knowledge of cloud-native and Knative concepts
- strong analytical
- technical writing and documentation skills.

Design and Implement Levels for Educational Game
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
The Knative community is developing an educational game to teach concepts about event driven architectures and how to build them with Knative. A good overview of the project was presented at KubeCon NA 2024. We are currently looking to tale our initial prototype and turn it into a full game. In this project, you will help achieve this by designing levels that teach architectural concepts, and implementing those levels in the Godot game engine.

Improve Knative Eventing Onboarding
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Onboarding new end users into a sophisticated system like Knative Eventing presents significant challenges, especially as it involves understanding not only the operational components but also a distinct architectural style - event driven architecture (EDA). These issues are also seen in the current documentation which is often too technical and not geared towards practical guidance. This project seeks to perform a thorough investigation into the barriers that prevent smooth user onboarding and sustained engagement. By identifying these obstacles and developing clearer, more actionable onboarding materials, we aim to enhance the ease of entry and ongoing use of Knative Eventing for all users.

Knative - applying pre-prepared website design
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Current design of the Knative website ( does not look modern and contains inconsistent style. Knative UX working group has prepared a new design for the website. We would like to get this design implemented on the website. We also want to ensure with this implementation that the figures in the website include alt text descriptions. We are not looking for full WCAG compliance though. Also, currently the website is not really responsive and doesn’t look good on a mobile device. The group also has a design for the mobile. Finally we have many diagrams on the website that have different styles. We would like to have these diagrams more cohesive. This part is an extended goal though.

Contributor Journey Research
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Getting new contributors onboarded into a complex project like Knative is a lot of work for both the new contributors and for the maintainers. This is compounded by the fact that many contributors don't stick around after the first few contributions. We would like to perform a research study into why some contributors stay while others leave the community after a bit, and determine where we can improve the contributor experience.

Cross Namespace Event Links
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
One of the most requested features in Knative Eventing over the past few years has been for triggers in different namespaces than brokers, and for subscriptions in different namespaces than channels. More information can be found in the upstream issue.

Porting Knative Serving to Microshift
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
More and more workload is moving towards running on the edge. We saw experiments running Kubernetes on vehicles, fighter jets, 5G antenna and various far edge, near edge and fat edge environments. We would like to see what the challenges are when Knative is run in a resource limited environment. While there are multiple edge-friendly Kubernetes distributions, we would like to see Microshift used as the base platform. Knative consists of Serving and Eventing modules but focusing on Knative Serving as a first step should be more approachable. The project consists of 2 stages. First one is to run Knative on Microshift with minimal resources. This requires finding out problems here, solving them. A stretch goal is to find out what happens with architectures other than x86_64.

Self-Balancing Knative Kafka Broker partitions
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Creating a Knative Kafka Broker requires developers to specify the number of partitions the backing Kafka topic should have, however, this is not an easy decision to make and it requires planning based on the expected load the Knative Broker could receive. This project aims to remove this configuration setting by having an autoscaler that is responsible to add or remove partitions based on the effective load the Knative Kafka Broker receives while preserving ordered and unordered delivery features for Triggers.
