  • Build OpenSandbox-Compatible API Adapter Layer

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OpenKruise Agents is a Kubernetes-native AI sandbox platform that currently exposes an E2B-compatible REST API over Kubernetes CRDs. OpenSandbox is another open-source sandbox platform with its own native API, distinct semantics (image-based creation, async pause, metadata patching, diagnostics), and a formal OpenAPI spec. Users who want to use OpenKruise Agents as the backend but need OpenSandbox API compatibility currently have no path. This project will build an OpenSandbox-compatible API adapter that reuses the existing orchestration layer without duplication, following the same adapter pattern proven by the E2B API. Additionally, the current in-sandbox execution layer is tightly coupled to the envd runtime. To support OpenSandbox's execd runtime as an alternative, the mentee will design a generic runtime provider interface abstracting command execution, file I/O, and runtime initialization, enabling per-sandbox selection between envd and execd. This abstraction also benefits any future runtime backend. Expected Outcome: - An OpenSandbox-compatible REST API layer coexisting with the existing E2B API in the same process - Full lifecycle coverage: sandbox CRUD, pause/resume, snapshots, metadata patching, diagnostics - Data model and state machine conversion between OpenSandbox and Kubernetes CRD semantics - A generic runtime provider interface with two implementations: envd (existing) and execd (OpenSandbox) - Per-sandbox runtime provider selection - Unit tests and a design proposal document

    * Description: OpenKruise Agents provides a Kubernetes-native platform for orchestrating AI agent sandboxes. With the recent merge of #648 (gateway-side JWT verification via OIDC) and #671 (TokenKind-based token issuance interface), the project now has the interfaces and scaffolding for standards-based token issuance and verification — but does not yet ship an open-source implementation that mints real signed tokens or propagates them into sandboxes. This project will implement a complete open-source token lifecycle: signed JWT access token issuance, signed ID token issuance, an OIDC discovery and JWKS endpoint so the gateway verifier can bootstrap, and ID token distribution into the sandbox runtime. The implementation should also support integration with open-source identity providers such as Keycloak and Dex, giving community users a fully open-source, end-to-end signed-token authentication path. The implementation will integrate with the existing token refresh controller and claim/clone flows without changing the API contract or CRD schema. * Expected Outcome: * An open-source IdentityProvider that signs real JWT access tokens with asymmetric keys, with key rotation support * An OIDC discovery and JWKS endpoint served by the sandbox-manager, eliminating the need for an external identity provider in community deployments * Signed ID token issuance integrated with the existing SecurityTokenRefreshReconciler for automatic refresh before expiry * A PropagateSecurityToken implementation that delivers the ID token into the sandbox runtime, with refresh-on-update and cleanup on sandbox lifecycle events * End-to-end tests covering the full token lifecycle from claim through gateway verification to ID token propagation and refresh * A design proposal and user-facing documentation * Recommended Skills: * Go programming (strong proficiency required) * Kubernetes (CRDs, controllers, controller-runtime, Secrets, RBAC) * JWT, OIDC, and JWKS concepts (token signing, claim design, key rotation) * Cryptography fundamentals (asymmetric keys, RSA/ECDSA, X.509) * Kubernetes operator patterns and reconciliation loops * E2E testing (Ginkgo, pytest)

  • Dynamic Volume Mounting for JuiceFS and Ceph in OpenKruise Agents

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

Dynamic volume mounting enables data persistence and sharing for pooled sandbox pods without relying on CSI plugins. This capability is essential for Agent workloads such as OpenClaw and Hermes, which need to save workspace data and share skills across sandboxes. Currently, OpenKruise Agents lacks support for open-source storage solutions like JuiceFS and Ceph, limiting adoption in on-premises environments. This project aims to integrate these storage backends by implementing CSI-plugin sidecars compatible with the Agent runtime and modifying the sandbox controller to support generic CSI volume mounting.

  • KruiseGame Cloud-Hosted Version Development

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

OKG has attracted many large game companies to embrace cloud-native transformation. However, for many small and medium-sized game companies, they are not familiar with the container and Kubernetes ecosystem. Due to their smaller team sizes, they have relatively weak infrastructure management capabilities. To democratize cloud-native technology for more game companies, OKG plans to launch a cloud-hosted version. Users can deploy the runtime environment with one click and complete game service integration based on the official SDK. This will reduce the complexity of using infrastructure for game companies and adapt to multi-cloud environments.

  • Game operation and maintenance API

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

kruise-game contains two CRDs GameServer and GameServerSet. Game servers can be managed by deploying or changing the corresponding CR. However, in actual production use, a release or operation and maintenance action is often a combination of a series of operations on CR. For example, set the GameServer image tag with ids 1, 7, and 10 to v0.3; adjust the update priority of GameServer with ids 5, 9, and 11 before updating the game server, etc. Therefore, a set of APIs with operation and maintenance semantics is needed, which users can directly use or integrate into their own operation and maintenance platform to facilitate operation and maintenance operations.
